Newfoundland
is an unincorporated community located in the northeast corner of Pennsylvania. The town is most known as being home to the Greene-Dreher-Sterling Fair each Labor Day weekend. The community also hosts an annual fireman's picnic and parade every 4th of July. Several major routes go through the community, including PA 507, PA 191, PA 196 and PA 447. Towns that are close to Newfoundland include Hamlin, Greentown, Sterling and Tafton. Newfoundland is near the Poconos Region, which is Pennsylvania's biggest tourist attraction with over 8 million visitors each year. The Poconos encompasses the Delaware State Forest, including six designated natural areas. Also in the area are 7 state parks, 17 state game lands and one national park, the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. Towards the southern end of the Poconos is the Appalachian Trail, and in autumn the Poconos are known for its brilliant colors. Numerous ski resorts dot the area, campgrounds are plentiful, and the Pocono Raceway is a major auto racetrack, home to two NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races. Gaming is also available at two resorts in the Pocono Mountains region.

Northeast Pennsylvania lies within the humid continental climate zone and has four distinctly marked seasons. Summers are hot and muggy, fall and spring are generally mild, and winters are cold with snow. Snowfall is variable year to year, with some winters bringing only light snow and others bringing several major snowstorms and accumulation. Precipitation is generally spread throughout the year, with thunderstorms possible in spring and summer. Fall is the driest season of the year and has the lowest humidity. Severe weather is possible, although rare, in northeast Pennsylvania, in the form of blizzards in the wintertime and tornadoes in spring and early summer.
