Blue-Knob
is an area of southwestern Pennsylvania that is a summit with a broad dome in the northernmost of the 3,000-foot hills of the Allegheny Mountains. The mountain, or summit, covers nearly 6,000 acres of Blue Knob State Park and contains 18 miles of hiking trails. Many overlooks are situated along the trails that give spectacular views of the mountains. Blue Knob is sometimes called "Pennyslvania's Best Kept Secret." There is a ski area located on the mountains north slopes, and the towns of Johnstown, Altoona and Bedford are located within 25 miles of Blue Knob. The towns of Pavia and Claysburg lie at the foot of the summit. This beautiful mountain setting makes a perfect getaway, whether for the day, a weekend or a full summer vacation. A resort and alpine village offers restaurants, a golf course and conference center in a peaceful, gorgeous setting. Some of the activities available in the Blue Knob area include golf, hiking, mountain biking, hunting, fishing, camping and scenic drives (especially beautiful in the autumn season.) The Blue Knob State Park offers acres of hiking and biking trails, camping and much more.

East Central Pennsylvania has a humid continental climate with four distinct seasons. Summers are warm to hot with humidity, falls and springs are generally mild, and winters are cold with snow although the snowfall is variable. Some winters bring only a dusting of snow, while others bring several major snowstorms. The average annual snowfall is 19.3 inches. Precipitation is generally spread throughout the year, with eight to eleven wet days per month. In summer, it's common to have heat waves accompanied by high humidity and thunderstorms. Severe weather is possible, in the form of blizzards in the wintertime and tornados in the summer, although these type of storms are not the norm.
