Hershey
is located in Dauphin County in southeastern Pennsylvania, just 12 miles east of the capital city of Harrisburg. Hershey is not incorporated, therefore all municipal services are provided by Derry Township. The population of Hershey, as of the 2000 census, was 12,771. The community is often called the "Sweetest Place on Earth," and popularly called "Chocolatetown, USA," due to it being home to the famous Hershey Chocolate Company. Hershey makes the well-known Hershey bar and Hershey kisses candy, and it's the parent company to H.B. Reese Candy Company, manufacturer of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. Hershey provides lots of activities for the whole family, including a factory stores and virtual tour ride of the company. There is also the Hersheypark and Hersheypark Stadium, ZooAmerica and Hershey Gardens. Other attractions include a Hershey Museum, playhouse, library, shopping outlets, lodge and a cross-country ski course. Hersheypark alone consists of 65 rides and attractions, including 11 roller coasters, live entertainment and 20 children's rides. Hershey Gardens offers 23 acres of year-round theme gardens and flowers, and the popular Butterfly House. In addition to all this, Hershey is just a short drive to Harrisburg's museums, dining and shopping and capitol tours.

Southeast Pennsylvania lies within the humid continental climate zone, but the weather varies according to area and altitude. The state experiences four seasons, but each can vary in temperature depending on location. Summers, in general, tend to be long, hot and humid, particularly in the southeast. The mountainous areas are likely to be cooler and less humid. Autumns are usually moderate and a pleasant time to travel. Winters are cold with snow, especially in the mountains. July tends to be the warmest month, and although temperatures can reach over 90 F in the southeast, average temperatures are usually about 80 F. January is the coldest time of year, with temperatures dropping to about 23 F. Tornadoes and floods are possible in southeast Pennsylvania.
