Lackawaxen
is the name of a township, river and village located in Pike County, northeastern Pennsylvania. Lackawaxen Township is the largest and northernmost township in the county, with a population of 4,154 as of the 2000 census. The Delaware River marks the eastern boundary of the township and joins the Lackawaxen River at Lackawaxen Village. Lackawaxen is situated within the Upper Delaware River National Park approximately two-hours from New York City. It's located about 22 miles northwest of the town of Milford, Pennsylvania. Lackawaxen is a nature lover's paradise with many opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, skiing, fishing, white water rafting and more. The area is also full of points of historical interest. The Roebling Aqueduct is the oldest suspension bridge in the country and forerunner of Roeblings better known work, the Brooklyn Bridge. The Roebling Aqueduct was built in 1848 to carry coal barges over the Delaware River and is now open to car traffic. Visit the exhibits on the top walkway and in the tollhouse museum. There is also a walking path along the river which traces part of the D&H Canal. Lackawaxen makes a scenic Pocono Mountains getaway, whether for the day, weekend, or longer.

The Catskill Mountains has a climate with many variations depending on the elevation. There is a totally different winter in the mountains and the higher plateaus over 1,000 feet. There, the grip of winter is strong and steady, and above freezing temperatures are less common. Average January temperatures are three to four degrees colder at elevations from one to two thousand feet and over seven degrees colder at elevations above two thousand feet. Snowfall is fairly uniform during the month of January in the Catskills. The third week of July is generally the hottest time of the year in the Catskills, and rainfall during the warm months is usually confined to a few days rather than spread throughout the month. September has warm days, cool nights and fog at dawn over the Hudson valley. By October the hills are a kaleidoscope of color, and the first hard freeze is usually at the end of October.
