Milford
is a picturesque borough in Pike County in northeastern Pennsylvania. As of the 2010 census, the population was 1,021. The town was founded in 1796 along the Delaware River. It sits on an escarpment 100 feet above the river, so there are streams that flow through and around the town that cascade down wooded cliffs to reach the river below. This is just one of the reasons Milford was chosen as one of the "Ten Coolest Small Towns in Pennsylvania" by Frommer's Budget Travel in September 2007. There is also 400-foot bluff at the end of Broad Street (the town's main street) that offers views of the entire town. A scenic view it is, too, of tree-lined streets, Victorian buildings with steeples and gables and, of course, the river. It makes a picture-perfect scene of quintessential small town USA. Milford has a large number of buildings that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and is home to the Grey Towers National Historic Site. In addition, the Pike County Historical Society Museum houses the "Lincoln Flag," which is the flag that was bundled up and placed under President Lincoln's head the night he was shot. The flag still bears his blood. It was kept by stage manager, Thomas Gourlay, who passed it down to his daughter. She moved to Milford and the flag was donated to the museum upon her death. Other attractions include the Black Bear Film Festival, which takes place in October at the historic Milford Theater, and the Milford Music Festival, held annually in June.

The Catskill Mountains has a climate with many variations depending on the elevation. There is a totally different winter in the mountains and the higher plateaus over 1,000 feet. There, the grip of winter is strong and steady, and above freezing temperatures are less common. Average January temperatures are three to four degrees colder at elevations from one to two thousand feet and over seven degrees colder at elevations above two thousand feet. Snowfall is fairly uniform during the month of January in the Catskills. The third week of July is generally the hottest time of the year in the Catskills, and rainfall during the warm months is usually confined to a few days rather than spread throughout the month. September has warm days, cool nights and fog at dawn over the Hudson valley. By October the hills are a kaleidoscope of color, and the first hard freeze is usually at the end of October.
